Inspections
The latest edition of NFPA 1851 requires that all protective ensemble elements undergo advanced inspections at least once every 12 months or sooner if a routine inspection suggests a potential issue.
Detailed records of all advanced inspections must be maintained for the entire lifespan of the garment. NorCal PPE simplifies this process by assisting with gear tracking through PPE Software, ensuring that inspections are documented, compliance is maintained, and departments can efficiently manage their turnout inventory.

Repairs
Per the latest edition of NFPA 1851, all repairs must be conducted by the original manufacturer, a verified ISP with proper training, or a trained member of the organization. Any repairs or alterations to an ensemble or its elements must use like materials and components that match the manufacturer’s original construction methods and comply with NFPA 1971 standards.
NorCal PPE works closely with departments to facilitate compliant repairs and track service history, helping to extend the lifespan of protective gear while meeting industry standards.
